A Passion Avenue For Science

Introduction

Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5-29 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that approximately 1.3 million people die each year due to road traffic crashes, with numbers rising annually. To address this issue, there is an urgent need to reduce motor vehicle accidents.

Most of these accidents are preventable and caused by human error, which accounts for 92-96% of all auto accidents according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This includes recognition errors (failure to recognize the situation on the road), decision errors (inability to choose the appropriate response), performance errors (failure to perform a driving task correctly), and non-performance errors (such as falling asleep while driving).
